Acupuncture and Stress

We all feel stress from time to time, it’s an unfortunate part of our ‘coffee culture’ full of deadlines and bosses with poor communication skills. The trouble with stress is that, from a survival point of view, it  forces us into the “fight or flight” response – which is helpful in the short term if you’re running from a bear, but not so good if that bear is your boss and you have to deal with him or her every day.

Fight or Flight causes a whole cascade of reactions in the body that, over time, can have a serious impact on our health. Chronic fatigue, generalized pain, depression, lowered immune response and much more can often be attributed to the stress response.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to turn off this response:

  • Exercise. You knew I’d say that, right? Regular exercise goes a LONG way to reducing the effects of this type of unhealthy stress response.
  • Drink water. Water helps flush unhelpful chemicals from your body, and promotes a healthy immune system.
  • Get healing. Allow yourself the time to be cared for.  Get acupuncture, massage, or any other sort of ‘hands-on’ healing that you feel drawn to.  Do it regularly as a way of staying healthy and productive.

Do it Today.
